Sunnis and Shiites are the two main branches of Islam. Sunnis believe that the leader should be elected, while Shiites believe that the leader should be a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. This historical disagreement has led to differences in religious practices, beliefs, and interpretations of Islamic teachings between the two groups. Today, Sunnis make up the majority of the Muslim population, while Shiites are the largest minority. **
